My shudders are a horrible noise. Nothing else I fear more than my shudders. My grip on my walking cane tightens as my shudders shroud the sounds that I need to hear to survive. The aching burn from my crouching leg could not surpass my perpetual pounding heart. My mind races chaotically as I try to find a way to calm myself down. But how could I when I knew he was trying to find me?

The chaotic racing in my mind stutters to a stop when a familiar voice from the past resonates in my mind; a voice I knew that always spoke with a smile I can never see.

“Calm down, calm down cupcake.” His soothing voice slowly had awoken to my right.

I shifted my small head and whimpered towards his voice. “There’s too much noise!” I clumped my hands to my little ears. “I can hardly hear yours!” Hot icy tears rolled down my face.

His voice dissipated and the buzzing blared louder. I screamed. His sleek gloves touched my small chin as I felt a gaze on me. His soft voice dominated all other noises. “Helena honey, when there’s too much noise like these, focus your attention on the wind. Let the wind whisper which direction the waves are coming from.”

My shudders lower as I slowly gape for air and concentrate. My hands strain around the cool metal steel.

I hear a swish.

I feel the brisk.

I lean back on the rough wooden wall as the winding wind whispers to me my trouble. My trouble shapes in the form of him; a slender sly shadow with spindly sharp claws jutting out his left hand. He stops in his path. He’s looking for me.

“Jack, won’t you describe yourself to me please?” My tiny self asked to my smiling tutor.

“Well, I never go out in public without my sleek suit and my top hat. This, and a rose is a part of me, forever. But cupcake, you already knew that didn’t you?” He nuzzled my nose. “We all know it isn’t about me today; it’s your birthday.” I giggled. His sleek gloves held my hands as he took away my wooden cane. I gaped and held him in fear and in worry, until a cool metal steel touched the palm of my hand. “Happy birthday cupcake.”

I brush the cool crystal on my cane, as I hear the sifting shadow saunter around the wall humming his dark tune. “doo-Doo-doo, doo-Doo-doo, doo-Doo-doo.” He chuckles at the end of it. I grit my teeth as I slowly stand up and stir the wind around me. I strike my cane again and surely the wind swishes around me. A window clears up from the cloud of nothingness. I cautiously approach the window and vault over it stealthily. The shadow approaches. I immediately crouch. My purple heart pumps. The wind whispers frantically, screeching in fear for me. I hold my breath and listen. The wind slushes to a silence. The footsteps stop. All has stopped.

“Jack, why do you have to go?” My tiny self had whimpered. “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, no cupcake. You didn’t do anything wrong.” He sighed. He knelt down and cupped my small chin with his sleek glove. “Sometimes things happen and we must leave our love ones.”

I sniveled as shattered shards shedded.

“No, no cupcake don’t cry. Here,” he rummaged in his pocket until he took out a soft fabric. “This is my favorite tie, and I want you to have it. That way I’ll be right next to your heart forever.”

I wiped my tears and took the tie. I smiled sadly and embraced his warmth. It was the last hug I’ll ever get from my only friend.

My hands trace the soft, silky fabric as I felt the crystals crack on my face. I heard the winds frantically swarming around as a heavy breath crinkles down my neck. Spindly, sharp claws descend in front of my face. The blades menacingly curl beneath my chin. Sweat drips down as tears pour. As a sticky warmth goo slowly ooze out of my neck, the echo of one last word dominated my last screams.
