“These woods have always been secluded… only the animals, insects, and spirits of the forest resided within. That was until a couple in love decided to build a home in the middle of this very forest. They wished to live alone, unbothered by the outside world. They lived happily for awhile that was until a group of 4 hunters decided to venture into the forest and discovered their home. They all tired of hunting the same animals over and over again, and they saw this couple untouched and unharmed by the world outside and decided they would become their prey. They stalked and learn their actions to anticipate when they would be their weakest. It was the night of a blood moon that they decided to attack. The husband decided to leave to collect fresh water, and the wife would stay and keep a fire warm for when her lover returned. One of them went inside the home to incapacitate the wife and the other three went to capture the husband collecting water. When they brought back the husband they told the wife to watch as they killed and tortured her husband. One of the hunters held her back so she couldn't rush and aid her husband. The three hunters killing the husband distracted by their kill didn't see when the wife took the knife from her captors holster and slit his throat. Knowing it was futile to save her dying husband she fled into the woods. She knew these woods inside out but so did the hunters. Knowing she couldn't escape them, she hid behind a weeping willow tree that was located near their home. She prayed to the heavens. She prayed to the underworld. She prayed to the spirits residing in the forest. She asked for help and put all her faith into whoever would help and save her. The forest responded. An unnatural chill filled the forest. When the hunters noticed the wife had fled they followed her trail to find her. It was too late at that point. The widow had made a contract with the forest. Residing within the weeping willow the widow became a spirit of the forest. A spirit like all of the others but she was stronger than all of them, she was their new protector. She was to rest until she built her strength. On the next blood moon her spirit awoke. It was angry, furious at what those hunters did to her husband and her life. Tales started to spread of a weeping widow who haunted the forest. Those who were brave enough would venture towards the Weeping Willow tree where she lived. But all those who ventured there would never return. She would never let anyone break into her home again and take away everything she had. Her vengeance couldn't be satiated until her husband's killers were brought to justice.”

“Did you ever bury your friend? The one you didn't notice was dying while you were killing a stranger?”

“Or did you just leave him to rot in that home?”

The three hunters stared shockingly at their new friend. The girl they just met was a promising hunter. She told them of a rare creature that was spotted in the woods… the woods they dared never go back to after what happened. But she lulled them into a sense of security.

“I'm surprised you don't remember me. You did try to kill me after all”

Her eyes turned black, her hair flailing around like crazy. Her body started to rise off the ground.

“I found you. I brought you back to my home. So that all three of you could feel the pain you made me feel.”

The trees started to shake. Leaves rustling. Insects screaming. And then all of a sudden the the roots of the trees grappled the hunters. Their screams of fear and anguish powered the widow. She would make sure they suffered, deeply. The roots dragged them deep into the earth. Their lungs filling with dirt and insects. They slowly but painfully started dying.

After the disappearance of the notorious hunters no one dared bother the forest of the weeping widow. Her spirit finally became at peace. The forest pitying her would conjure her husbands spirit and allowed him to enter the forest every blood moon. During that time the forest danced with happiness. Flowers bloomed and the petals filled the forest. Only during this time could anyone venture into the forest and live to tell the tale.

But those who overstayed their welcome would be visited by the widow… and never seen again.
